ResBaz 2017 In-Person
Victoria University will host the second annual Research Bazaar (ResBaz) and Digital Research awards, from 8 to 10 February 2017 in the Kelburn Hub.
ResBaz, which began in 2014 at The University of Melbourne, aims to create an environment where academic and professional staff and students can come together to learn new digital research skills, showcase current projects and collaborate on planning new research opportunities.
The sessions will be interactive, hands on and led by current researchers and support staff from Victoria.
Session streams include:
· CODE—get hands-on experience or a useful refresher in key research computing tools including Python, Shell, Git and LaTeX
· LEARN—introductory and interactive sessions on digital research skills, tools and methods such as data manipulation and visualisation, digital storytelling, online publishing and ways to increase research impact
· PLAY—take a break and try out some of the latest Virtual Reality (VR) and Augmented Reality (AR) technology, and encounter a range of innovative research projects from staff and students
· PRESENT—key stories and presentations from researchers across the university and beyond
The final afternoon will also include a ‘Data Olympics’ competition where teams have the chance to showcase skills learned during ResBaz to craft a compelling digital narrative based on open data sets.
For more information on the programme, to register, or to nominate a colleague for the digital research awards, visit the ResBaz website. We’re limited to 90 tickets, so get in quick.
We are also looking for volunteers to host a session, demonstrate your favourite digital research tool or overview a digital research innovation. If you would like more information, please email matt.plummer@vuw.ac.nz.
The Victoria University ResBaz is facilitated by a cross disciplinary group from academic and central support units, including Wai-te-ata Press, the School of Mathematics and Statistics, the Faculty of Graduate Research, the Library, the Research Office, Communications, New Zealand eScience Infrastructure and the Information Technology Service team.
