FGR PhD Workshop - Managing your PhD candidature effectively In-Person
In this workshop we will discuss a number of strategies that research and practice have demonstrated can help candidates manage their candidature effectively. The workshop will include:
- Expectations of candidates and supervisors
- Working with co-supervisors
- Determining a learning plan for the first 12 months
- Creating a learning plan for the second and third years of your candidature
The session aims to answer the following questions:
- What is the role of the candidate in managing their candidature?
- What are some strategies for successfully managing candidature?
Presenter bio:
For many years Margaret Kiley's research and teaching interests have related to the education of future researchers. Margaret holds an adjunct position at the Australian National University. In addition to working in Further/Higher Education in Australia, Indonesia, Malaysia and the UK she has also presented workshops on research education and training in New Zealand, Myanmar, Canada and the USA. In 2017 she received the Australian Council of Graduate Research (ACGR) Award for Excellence in Graduate Research Leadership. A recent publication is: Taylor, S., Kiley, M., & Humphrey, R. (2017). A handbook for doctoral supervisors (2nd ed,). Oxford: Routledge.
