FGR PhD Workshop: Making the most of supervision In-Person

Supervision matters – heaps! Getting the most out of it isn’t always easy.

What will you get?

Time with your supervisor is precious. It’s high stakes too: one of the most important relationships in your research work. But supervision is also a hard thing to get ‘right’, for both the student and the supervisor. This workshop will be informed by research on successful student-supervisor practices, and include a range of tools and strategies to help you make the most of research supervision. There will be opportunities to reflect on your own supervision, learn from others, and trouble-shoot common issues.

Pre-workshop preparation

  1. Read two blog posts  (see below) – make some short notes on: Any key take-home points; anything you disagree with
  2. Draw your research support constellation. With you at the centre, write down everyone who helps you with your research study in any meaningful way (academic, logistical, emotional) – it could be a spider diagram (simpler to do) or a network.
