FGR PhD Workshop: Making the most of supervision In-Person
Supervision matters – heaps! Getting the most out of it isn’t always easy.
What will you get?
Time with your supervisor is precious. It’s high stakes too: one of the most important relationships in your research work. But supervision is also a hard thing to get ‘right’, for both the student and the supervisor. This workshop will be informed by research on successful student-supervisor practices, and include a range of tools and strategies to help you make the most of research supervision. There will be opportunities to reflect on your own supervision, learn from others, and trouble-shoot common issues.
Pre-workshop preparation
- Read two blog posts (see below) – make some short notes on: Any key take-home points; anything you disagree with
- Draw your research support constellation. With you at the centre, write down everyone who helps you with your research study in any meaningful way (academic, logistical, emotional) – it could be a spider diagram (simpler to do) or a network.
