Orientation sessions are designed for staff who are new to supervision and experienced supervisors who are new to Victoria University of Wellington. External supervisors are also welcome to attend an orientation session.

The workshop aims to raise participants' awareness of the rationale underpinning VUW supervision and examination policies and procedures and their implications. It will include sessions on Admission to VUW, Establishing a positive supervision relationship, Guiding candidates through the MA/PHD and Progressing from Provisional to Full Registration (for PhD candidates). Participants will be provided with guidelines and support on MA and Phd procedures, practices and policies and invited to register for more specialised workshops later in the year.

Completing the orientation is a minimum requirement for all Victoria postgraduate research supervisors.
