FGR PhD Workshop: Working a conference ... Networking like a pro In-Person
In this workshop we will explore what you can do before, during and after an international conference in order to take maximum advantage of the networking and learning opportunities. The presentation will cover questions such as:
- at what point in my PhD candidature is it best to present at a conference?
- what do I need to do before the conference?
- how should I decide which presentations to attend?
- how can I network during the conference?
- is the conference dinner worth attending?
- how should I follow up after returning home?
Sara Cotterall has been presenting at conferences since she joined Victoria University in 1987 in the School of Linguistics and Applied Language Studies. In that time she has honed her networking skills and developed an efficient and pragmatic approach to conference participation. The session will include the opportunity for participants to share experiences, raise questions and practise their personal conference "pitch".
Venue: Murphy 632
