FGR "How to work with someone new and maximize your chances for success: Student-Supervisor partnerships" In-Person
Working together with someone who you may not know can be a stressful situation but taking a step back to determine ability, commitment and compatibility between supervisor and supervisee is a good practice.
Learning objetive: To facilitate a discussion around skills and tools to ensure the supervision will be a good match
The session comprises a brief presentation followed by a group discussion. Topics covered include:
- What type/kind of doctoral supervisor are you?
- How to tell if you are a good match with your student: Key competencies to see in new students
- How to assess your fit to the new student and the fit of the new student to you as supervisor: Examples of effective questions
