(FGR) The Oral Defence: What happens and how to prepare Online

Oral examinations are a compulsory part of the examination process for Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) candidates. This important phase of the examination process is designed to assess and affirm the depth of a candidate's knowledge, critical thinking skills, and mastery of their research domain. As a crucial element of the PhD journey, the oral examination serves as a platform for candidates to articulate and defend their research findings before a panel of experts, marking a significant milestone on the path to earning the coveted doctoral degree.

In this online session, you will find out about the process and format of the oral exam, what happens on the day, who will be at the oral, what happens afterwards and much more. The session comprises a 45-minute presentation followed by a panel session with experienced exam chairs offering advice.
