FGR 'The lifecycle of the PhD' Online

The PhD journey is a multifaceted and dynamic process ladden with different stages, each presenting its own set of challenges and milestones. This journey is not merely an academic pursuit; it's a transformative odyssey, a testament to the passion, dedication, and intellectual tenacity required to earn the title of a doctorate.

This online workshop introduces you to the stages of a typical PhD. You will learn how to navigate the various stages and be provided with tools to help you plan and stay on track. You will learn key habits that will make a difference to how quickly and easily you complete your PhD. Topics covered:

  • how you deal with your supervisor
  • how you structure your study time
  • your attitude (or lack thereof!) in relation to your research
  • dealing with writer’s block or having difficulty writing
  • getting the help you need when you are stuck
  • juggling multiple commitments and never having enough time
  • keeping on going when the going gets tough

Our keynote speaker, Hugh Kearns, is an internationally recognized speaker, educator, and researcher at Flinders University, with experience at institutions like Oxford, Cambridge, Harvard, and Stanford. He specializes in self-management, positive psychology, work-life balance, learning, and creativity, applying cutting-edge research to high-performing individuals and groups. Hugh has co-authored twelve books and published articles in the prestigious journal Nature.

We highly encourage you to also attend our 'Getting off to the best start: Doctoral Induction' which complements this workshop well.
