VicTeach: Wikipedia in Teaching
Event location: MY501
Zoom link: vuw.zoom.us/my/victeach
Do you use Wikipedia in your teaching or do you tell students to avoid it? This introductory session aims to provide some information about how Wikipedia can be used by teachers, some of the resources available to support teachers, and provide connections with others who are interested in thinking about how/whether to use Wikipedia in their teaching.
The seminar is co-run with Wikimedia Aotearoa New Zealand, who will start by explaining how to edit Wikipedia and some of the support and funding opportunities available for teachers interested in using Wikipedia in their teaching. It will also feature case studies of how to use Wikipedia, including a presentation from the digital outreach manager at Te Papa, showing how Te Papa is showcasing items from their catalogue on Wikipedia, and a presentation from Claire Timperley (Political Science) about how to use Wikipedia in the classroom to augment underrepresented content online. We will conclude with a Q&A.
