Student Journey Mapping - Workshop Trial

Student Journey Mapping - Workshop Trial In-Person

The Holistic Student Journey Mapping project aims to create a strategic and coordinated approach to enhance the student experience at Te Herenga Waka. The goal is to develop a comprehensive student journey map that spans from university preparation to lifelong engagement with the institution.

Workshop location:

This workshop will be hosted in Rankine Brown 901 on the Kelburn Campus.

Workshop focus:

This workshop is the first stage in the development of Te Herenga Waka’s Student Journey Map, and will facilitate the co-design of the journey with students, staff, and key university stakeholders. The 2-hour session will involve group activities and in-room discussions. Preparation materials will be shared before the workshop.

During this workshop you will participate in activities that will:

  • Develop a holistic view of the student experience within their journey at Te Herenga Waka and beyond,
  • Define the current state of specific stages within the student journey based on key students milestones and moments,
  • Identify gaps and future opportunities that can be developed and prioritised to improve student experience, success and retention.

The objectives of the Student Journey project are to:

  1. Create an agreed view of the student journey that aids in identifying projects and initiatives that contribute to improved student experience and retention,
  2. Increase knowledge and understanding of the student journey by creating a transparent view of the journey that is accessible to all students and staff,
  3. Develop an accepted student journey framework through co-design and collaboration across the Te Herenga Waka community,
  4. Ensure the student journey is understood and provides clarity to all students and staff, and
  5. Provide a framework for the university to plan resourcing, continuous improvement, and projects based on a student-centred and data-informed view of the student journey.

Registration is required. There are 9 seats available.

The journey map will cover 15  months (Term1 Yr 13)  before study begins, include both undergraduate and postgraduate experiences, and extend to alumni engagement.

This map will support the positioning of future strategic projects, identify gaps in support and retention, and guide continuous improvement. It will serve as a formal University guideline, adhering to policy and change management processes.

What to do after attending the workshop:

The student journey map will continue to evolve after each workshop. Once you have participated in a workshop, you can continue to contribute to this activity by:

  • Using workshop templates and artifacts to develop your ideas further and submitting them to the project team,
  • Participating in follow-up workshops that will allow you to review the current state of the journey, and provide more input,
  • Facilitating workshops with your own team using the student journey workshop framework and objectives.
