Cross-Cultural Communication 5-week series (in-person, KK001) In-Person

This is a five-week workshop series of 2 hour sessions. These sessions focus on communication skills based on the University's Māori values to help you make social connections and navigate academic life while studying in New Zealand. This will be chance to practice your English communication skills and reflect on cultural differences you encounter in New Zealand in a safe and welcoming environment.

Please register only if you are able to attend all five sessions. 

  • Week 1: Akoranga and Whanaungatanga: Making Social Connections and learning from each other,
  • Week 2: Rangatiratanga: Leading your learning and asking for help,
  • Week 3: Manaakitanga: Working in groups,
  • Week 4: Whai Māturanga: Receiving and giving feedback,
  • Week 5: Kaitiakitanga: Communicating boundaries

The Te TaiakoStudent Learning team is a group of professional, experienced learning advisers who specialise in helping you achieve academic success. Staff work with all students, from first-year to postgraduate level, and cover all forms of academic writing, study management skills and maths.

  • 15-minute express appointments with a learning adviser at Info Ihonui, Level 2 Library entrance, the Hub, 11am to 1pm, Monday to Friday during teaching weeks
  • postgraduate seminars and support
  • a Māori Learning adviser to support Māori students in their studies
  • a Pasifika learning adviser to support Pasifika students in their studies
  • maths and statistics support.
